About us

Casmerino makes merino and cashmere knitwear and outerwear for men. Sweaters, cardigans, polos, zip jackets and coats, cut to be worn on a Monday and still look right on a Saturday.

Who it is for

Men who would rather own fewer, better things. The pieces are plain on purpose: clean necklines, flat knits, quiet colors. They go under a blazer, over a shirt, or on their own with jeans, and they don't need much thought in the morning.

Two fibres, chosen for how they wear

Merino

Our merino comes from family farms in the high country of Australia. It is a fine 17.5 micron fibre, so it feels soft against bare skin rather than scratchy. Every bale is traceable to the farm it came from, and every farm is mulesing-free. Merino breathes, keeps you warm without bulk and resists odor. A sweater can go several wears between washes.

Cashmere

Our cashmere is combed by hand each spring from the soft winter undercoat of goats on the Mongolian steppe, where winters reach -40°C. The cold is what makes the fibre fine and long. We keep only fibre of 15.5 micron or finer for our knits. That is why they feel light for how warm they are.

How a piece is made

The fibre is spun into yarn and knitted at a fine gauge, most pieces at 12 or 14 gauge, for a smooth, flat face that sits close without clinging. Our coats and heavier jackets are cut from dense wool cloth, often with cashmere in the blend, so they hold their shape through a long winter.

Some pieces are pure merino or pure cashmere. Others are blends, such as cashmere with merino, chosen for softness or structure. The product page lists the exact composition of every piece under Fabric and details.

Looking after it

Good wool needs less washing than you think. Air it between wears. When it does need a wash, go cool, by hand or on a wool cycle, and lay it flat to dry in the shade. Fold knits rather than hang them. Coats with a lining or trims are best left to a dry cleaner. Our FAQ has the full care notes.
